Spring's Coming!

After being woken up by the glorious weather this morning I just had to step outside and take a few snaps of the garden. Spring and Summer are without a doubt my favourite times of the year and I don't hesitate to enjoy every minute of them.
The brightened whether instantly lifts my mood and reminds me of the minuscule gap between now and the summer holidays.

Spring Baking: Scones | Collab with Where's My Lipstick

Something I have not yet done on this blog is a collaboration post with another blogger. After having my blog for nearly two years now I thought it was about time I got more involved and joined together with some other bloggers to write a few posts.

So for today's post I am collaborating with Jess from the blog Where's My Lipstick. Her blog is fab by the way so please check it out and leave her some lovely comments!

As Spring/ Summer is now arriving we thought it would be a nice idea to do a post relating to that so here is our Spring baking post!

Scones are a personal favourite of mine for hot sunny days as a light snack or if you are very British like me and occasionally like having afternoon tea.

In this recipe you will need:
- 350g self-raising flower
85g butter
- 3 tsp caster sugar
1 tsp salt
- 1tsp baking powder
175ml milk
1tsp vanilla extract
- lemon juice
beaten egg
- jam and clotted cream

Method:

1. Pre heat the oven to 220C/fan 200C/gas 7. Sieve the flower into a large bowl, add the salt and baking soda and mix. Add the butter and rub the mixture with your fingers until it looks like fine crumbs. Then stir in the sugar.

2. Pour the milk into a jug and heat it in the microwave for 30 seconds until warm. Add the lemon juice and vanilla extract and set aside for a moment. Put a baking sheet in the oven.

3. Make a dent in the dry mix, then add the liquid and quickly combine the two with a cutlery knife. Scatter some flour onto the work surface and dip the dough out. Put a little more flower on your hands and the dough, then fold the dough over 2-3 times until it's a little smoother. Pat it into a round blob around 4cm deep.

4. Take a 5cm cutter and dip it into the flower. Push it into the dough and repeat this until you have four blobs resembling scones. Then gather whatever dough you have left in a blob and cut out as many scones as you can get out of it. Brush the tops of the scones with the beaten egg (this will create a glaze) and then carefully place them onto the baking tray.

5. Bake for 10 minutes until risen and golden on top. Eat warm or cold topped generously with jam and clotted cream.

YUM!!

How to: The Morning Smoothie

Since the arrival of the new smoothie machine in the Redlaff household, I haven't been able to get enough of them. I believe smoothies to be such an awesome, more manageable way of getting part of your five a day with barely any effort.
I find that a smoothie in the morning really sets me up for the day. It make me feel more awake and refreshed. There are so many wonderful smoothie recipes out there and I definitely want to branch out from the basic ones I currently make.

You will Need:
250ml Almond Milk
1 whole banana
3 handfulls of blueberries
1 whole kiwi
2 tsp honey
(any additional fruit/ ingredients)

Step 1
Measure out 250ml of almond milk into a jug and then pour into the blender.

Step 2
Add the blueberries into the blender.

Step 3
Peel the kiwi and banana, chop them up (so they are easier to blend) and pop them in the blender.

Step 5
Add 2tsp of honey to the mixture or however much you feel necessary depending on your preference.

Step 6
Blend, blend, blend!

And VOILA!

If anyone has any good smoothie recipes or links to recipes I'd love for you to comment them below!

My Tips For Revision

After a long and tough day packed full of revision I thought I would share some ways of revision that I find effective and little tips and tricks than can not only help you to remember more but to also keep you feeling on top of your work and slightly less stressed out. Don't get me wrong- stress can be a good motivator however too much stress is never a good thing.

1. Plan-  Planning and lists will be your best friends from now on. Having structure to your day will make sure you get enough done and keep your revision on track. Planning the subject you revise, then the topic and then how long for is my method to planning a day of revision. For example, as you can see on my timetable, I planned to do R.S (subject), matters of life (topic) between 1.30 and 2.10 (time).

2. Breaks- Make sure to take frequent breaks between revision sessions. I usually revise for about 40 minutes and then take a 10 minute break. In this time I do stuff such as going to the toilet, making a cup of tea, checking my messages and social media etc. Having breaks are a good way of keeping focused and allowing your brain to take in the information it has just absorbed.

3. Mind maps-  This method may not apply to everyone however I find the use of mind maps very effective. They are a great way of condensing information so that you can stick it up on your bedroom wall and have a quick read through of it every so often in order to keep reminding yourself of key data. I also think it is waaay more fun than just writing out blocks of text from a textbook that probably won't stick in your memory anyway.

4. Snacks- I don't think eating excessive amount of food whilst revising is the greatest idea in the world as you are usually sat down for long periods of time however I do think having something to nibble on can make revising slightly more bearable. I like having celery chunks or peanuts.

5. Sticky notes- If you find a key piece of data that really doesn't want to stay in your brain or just something that you think needs reinforcing slightly more, write it down and stick it somewhere in the house. Trust me. Whenever I make a smoothie in the morning I read the little note next to my smoothie machine and now I can't forget it!

6. Motivation- Always keep your eye on the prize. Constantly remind yourself why you are doing this revision and what you want to achieve. Remember, if you want it badly enough you can achieve it. With the work you can achieve anything.

I'd love to know if anyone has any good revision tips they find work really well for them. Leave a comment below!

Happy revising :)

Deryn's 50th Bday

Yesterday I headed up to Sheffield to visit my best friend Beth for her Mum's 50th birthday celebrations. Beth and Deryn got their makeup professionally done which looked incredible so a lot of pictures were definitely needed! Overall the night was lovely however I now feel slightly zombiefied after only getting 4 hours sleep before heading home again for Easter Sunday.

What I'm Wearing
Dress- Zara

Upcoming Shows

After a week of auditions I can finally say that this upcoming September I will be playing the part of Meg in Derby Youth Music Theatre's Production of 'The Phantom of the Opera.' I am incredibly excited as it is one of my all time favourite musicals and I can't wait to start rehearsals.
I will also be playing Madeline in Big Adventure's Youth Theatre production of Nicholas Nickleby in July which I am also very much looking forward to!
